National Temporal Bone Registry

The National Temporal Bone Hearing and Balance Pathology Resource Registry, located at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, serves as a national resource for researchers and the public to promote human temporal bone research. The main purpose of the Registry is to rejuvenate research in the human temporal bone by 1) establishing a computerized database of human temporal bone collections, 2) proactively responding to inquiries from the public and researchers interested in temporal bone donation or research, 3) dissemination of information about the human temporal bone collection, its importance for otologic practice, 4) the implementation of professional educational activities in the field of human temporal bone and auditory brain stem study, 5) the conservation of otopathologic collections at risk of being lost and, finally, and 6) the development and implementation of a national acquisition network to increase the yield of human temporal bone and brain tissue from donors.

The Registry seeks individuals with ear disorders such as hearing loss or balance problems to make an anatomical gift of their temporal bones and associated brain structures.
