"Hip Manhattan Reception Raises Over $600,000 for Hearing Research" On May 3, 2006, Deafness Research Foundation (DRF) hosted its annual Celebration of Hearing Health event. DRF swapped the traditional gala model for a two-hour chic reception at New York City’s Maritime Hotel and raised over $600,000 to support DRF’s important work throughout the year. The intimate reception brought together 175 of DRF’s closest supporters and featured a comic performance by award-winning comedienne Kathy Buckley, a silent auction, and the presentation of several awards:
- Corporate Leadership Award – Albert Lord, Chairman of the SLM Corporation, for his ongoing commitment to DRF.
- Research Award – Dr. William Brownell, for his outstanding achievements in the field of research for hearing and balance science.
- Leadership Award – Armand P. D’Amato, for his tireless efforts in leading the DRF Board of Directors.
