The Situation...
Clinical research in Otolaryngology-Head
and Neck Surgery and Communication Sciences and Disorders
(O-HNS/CS-D) continues to lag seriously behind the fundamental
research effort. The conference supporters are deeply
concerned about the lack of organized research activity
that will generate sufficient scientific data to support
the practice of evidence-based medicine/health care
and to answer the many unsolved clinical problems in
these fields.
The Problem...
The key problem is the lack of fundable
research applications, which in turn result from inadequate
numbers of trained, experienced, and mentored investigators,
and the lack of viable national clinical research system
in which networks of clinical scientists dedicated to
working together can carry out the clinical research
projects.
Our Solution...
Our conference is aimed squarely at
addressing these two major problems - investigators
and systems. By focusing on new and innovative research
protocols and on expanding existing and establishing
new collaborative research networks, the Deafness Research
Foundation believes a renewed national research effort
will result.
